Global Silicone Network, February 23: From 2021, global nickel demand will rise significantly. According to the report data of the World Bureau of Metal Statistics, the supply shortage in the global nickel market will reach 144,300 tons in 2021, and there will be a surplus of 84,000 tons in 2020. The downstream demand for nickel is mainly the manufacture of stainless steel, alloys and power batteries. Among them, the demand for power batteries is growing rapidly. The production and sales of new energy vehicles exceeded market expectations, and the installed capacity of corresponding power batteries increased by 102% year-on-year, of which ternary batteries accounted for 58%, which doubled. The sales of new energy vehicles have driven the growth of marginal consumption of nickel and cobalt. Antaike, a non-ferrous metal research institution, predicts that global nickel demand will reach 3.05 million tons in 2022, a year-on-year growth rate of 9.4%; my country's nickel demand will be 1.655 million tons, a year-on-year growth rate of 7.3%. From 2020 to 2021, the proportion of power batteries in China's nickel consumption structure has increased from 10% to 15%.
